Automate the assembling of press-fit components : Have a program which tells the computer which part goes where and in which exact orientation (something like solidworks assemblies : mates and connections). Have a robot which has grabbing capability and can undestructably grab the component and mate it. There are obviously many challenges to this, but one would to come up with a way to optimise the algorithm that the computer uses to put them together : basically in which order is it assembled, and is it assembled one piece at a time added to the main thing, or build sub-assemblies and then join them to form the assembly. this will be decided by the complexity of the design, and also by how should the robot be able to grab this really fragile structure... but it will be an interesting problem.
- 4. 3d printer for vacuum compatible parts - basically should print not using the plastic powder but something which doesnt outgas its molecules at low pressures.
